*Poem for family and Ancestors*
Every branch is an extension
A product of the tree’s intention
Every stream has a ‘from’
A source whence it runs
No human is an island
A man is but a replica of his kind
History takes us back
A backtrack to find our mark
The present gave a treasured gift
A people that will never leave
Tomorrow will come with our song
A sonic remembrance of whence we come
No one chooses their home of birth
A choice of elédùmarè we could not avert
If we had a chance to decide
A trillion of us would decline
I know it, I know my home
A place beyond where I grow
My unique link to a lineage
A descent of the sage
You have made me a person of valor
A seed proud of his Ancestors
You gave me a name and an image
A gift for which I thank Elédùmarè.
Mímọ́ mímọ́ niti Ọlọ́run Elédùmarè
Ìbà fún Elédùmarè
Ìbà Áṣe!
